“I refuse to believe that the life of a child in the Western world is more precious than the life of a child in Tanzania. A life is equal to a life, no matter what.”

- Mohammed “Mo” Dewji, MDF Founder

Explore the case study

  • At the start of 2024, the Mo Dewji Foundation (MDF) embarked on a crucial initiative to refine and enhance their communication strategy. Recognizing the need for a professional yet engaging impact report, the MDF team partnered with Grandstand Graphics to tailor their communications to align with the foundation's unique look, feel, and purpose. The goal was to ensure that their communications authentically reflected their mission and amplified their impact. Over a span of 2-3 weeks, the team conducted an audit of existing communication materials, engaged in copywriting and reviews, designed low fidelity wireframes, and navigated through design reviews to produce the final deliverable. This process culminated in a polished and compelling impact report that resonated with MDF's core values and objectives.

  • The project spanned 2-3 weeks and involved several key steps:

    • Auditing Existing Materials: The team started by auditing MDF's current communication materials to identify strengths and areas for improvement.

    • Copywriting and Reviews: Crafting new content that effectively communicated MDF's mission, values, and impacts while undergoing multiple review stages for refinement.

    • Designing Wireframes: Creating low fidelity wireframes to conceptualize the report’s layout and design.

    • Design Reviews: Navigating through design reviews to ensure alignment with MDF's brand and objectives.

    • Finalizing Deliverables: Producing the final report and ensuring it was polished and compelling, with additional coaching and support provided to strategize printing formatting, social media usage and promotion framing, etc.

  • The primary beneficiary was the Mo Dewji Foundation. The newly crafted impact report was intended to be a versatile tool for MDF, aiding in partnership discussions, fundraising efforts, and stakeholder education. The report highlighted MDF's program impacts and successes, driving awareness of where additional support was needed.

However, the team faced challenges along the way:

    • MDF had strong short-form social content and photography but struggled with long-form marketing copy and program communications.

    • There was a need for a modern brand guide to ensure future content aligned with the impact report and established a trusted tone, continuity, and relationship-building with stakeholders.

To address these challenges, Grandstand Graphics decided to heavily feature human faces, smiles, real-world photography, and key quotes in the final product to create a visually engaging and emotionally resonant impact report.

  • The collaboration resulted in an interactive and engaging impact report that MDF can leverage to enhance education and fundraising efforts. Grandstand Graphics not only met the tight project timeframe but also provided strategic coaching on utilizing calls to action, modernizing messaging, and integrating technology for international fundraising. Emphasizing sustainability, the report was designed to be both printable and digitally hosted, ensuring lasting access and broad usability across various social media channels. Looking ahead, Grandstand Graphics is committed to supporting MDF's ongoing communication needs. An exciting new project on the horizon is the redesign of MDF's website, set to launch in the summer of 2024, promising to further amplify the foundation's digital presence and impact.

Stay tuned for more showcases of MDF's projects and initiatives, and join us in supporting the Mo Dewji Foundation as they continue to drive positive change in Tanzania.
